

George VanNess Burbach of Chapin S.C. passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 93. He was born March 26, 1930, in Chicago IL, son of George Franklin Burbach and Marion Elizabeth VanNess Burbach. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Michigan in 1953. After that, he joined the United States Air Force, Judge Advocate General, achieving the rank of Captain, and served a year in Korea from the spring of 1955 to the spring of 1956.
George married Lois Mae Anderson in 1951. They loved spending summers with their family at their cottage on Lake Michigan. George lost Lois to cancer in 1989.
In 1991, George married Betty Sue Wrenn Stephens. They moved to Sue's home state of South Carolina shortly thereafter. They enjoyed traveling and being active in church and the South Carolina Teaparty.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Sue; his children, Joanne (Ron) Pieper, Van (Lisa) Burbach, Laura (Chris) Pudney and Randy Burbach; grandchildren, Karen Pieper Stauffer, Eric Pieper, David Burbach, Brian Burbach, Laura Burbach, Nicola Pudney, Rachel Pudney Tew, and Michael Pudney; 7 great-grandchildren, and stepchildren, Gary Stephens, Glenn Stephens, Marjorie Stephens, Paula (Jeff) Jeffcoat, and Philip Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at Irmo Church of God on Friday, June 9, 2023. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are through Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, S.C. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital.
