Born on March 31, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Girlie Lee Russell and Mary Elizabeth Robertson Russell.
Known simply as "GT" to friends and family throughout the Columbia area, he owned and operated a successful HVAC business for more than 20 years. One of his greatest sources of pride was working alongside his son, Dan, as they grew the business together.
GT was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He had a lifelong passion for playing the guitar, a love he shared with his son. Although they often wished they had spent more time playing together, those moments remained especially meaningful to him. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Linda Baggs Russell of Lexington; his son, Daniel Thomas Russell (Pam) of Chapin; his stepdaughter, Laura L. Meetze (Paul) of Irmo; his sisters, Thelma Byrd (Robert) of West Columbia, Mary Jane (Charles LaVern) Grubbs of Cayce and Jennie R. Bundrick (Alvin) of West Columbia; his brothers, Tony "Richard" Russell (Cherry) of Irmo, Rocky Lane Russell, and Charlie Vance Russell (Pearl) of St. Joseph, Missouri; his grandchildren, Jesse Thomas Russell (Kiting "Katrina") and Cody Austin Russell; and his great-grandson, Gavin Honorario Russell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Russell, and his granddaughter, Jessica Lauren Meetze.
GT's memory will be cherished by his family and all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, dedication, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Services will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 16th at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with visitation one hour prior.
