Gwen Swindler Robinson

Gwen Swindler Robinson, 69, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Born on November 27, 1946, she was the only child of the late Ernest R. and Travis D. “Boo” Swindler. She grew up in Hanahan, S.C. Upon graduation from Hanahan High School, she attended the University of South Carolina where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology. She worked for a short time with the S.C. Department of Mental Health before pursuing employment with the S.C. Department of Juvenile Corrections, now known as the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice, working there as a psychologist for the Reception and Evaluation Center, now the Midlands Evaluation Center, for almost 39 years until her retirement in 2009. Because of her love and concern for the well being of children, she continued her work after she retired by volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem through the S.C. Guardian ad Litem Program. She also began working as a volunteer in the Emergency Department at the Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital in the Irmo-St. Andrews area. Ms. Robinson was a loving and caring daughter, friend, godmother and “mother” to her parrots and was always willing to help others. In addition to her babies (her four parrots), she is survived by cousins, Jan Cunningham (Charles) of Ellisville, Missouri, Judy Roycroft of Decatur, Alabama; and by a multitude of friends too numerous to name. She was a lover of music, particularly beach and classical music and, in earlier years, was an avid shagger. A memorial service will be held for Ms. Robinson at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC.
