A funeral service for Helen Lorraine Byrom, 85, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021, at New Life Community Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Connection Center. Celebration of Life Burial will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens after the service. Mrs. Byrom died peacefully in her home, October 15, 2021. Born in Hammond, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Benjamin and Ethel Lucille (McNees) Chandler. Helen married her husband George, whom she affectionally called Babe, on April 11, 1953. They celebrated 55 years marriage a couple of months prior to George’s passing. Helen enjoyed spending time with her faithful canine companions, Bentley and Beau. Helen was a Breast Cancer survivor and lived a full life after her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
She loved children and wanted to be called Grandma by all. Helen drove a school bus and the children loved her so much they asked her to work at the preschool. Later, she started a preschool at her church.
Mrs. Byrom was a member of New Life Community church.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Mrs. Byrom is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald G. and Vicki (Fowler) Byrom of Crown Point, Indiana, Donald R Byrom of Thailand and Keith A. and Cheryl (Kaminer) Byrom of Irmo; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Sandra Chandler of Adairsville, Georgia; grandchildren, Angela Brothers, Adam, Andrew Byrom, Demi, Madison, and Chloe Byrom, Austin, Graham and Daniel Vaught; great-grandchildren, Owen and Jack Byrom, Isabella and Cecilia Brothers.
She was predeceased by her parents; and husband (Babe) George D. Byrom; her brothers George, Clyde, Lester, Paul and Robert Chandler; and sister Zelma Armstrong.
The family is grateful to her caretakers Lynn, Sharonte, and Jennifer, for taking such good care of her over the years.
