A funeral for Herbert Cecil Meetze, 90, will be held at noon on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until noon prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Meetze died Sunday, June 17, 2018, at National Health Care, Lexington. Born in Ballentine, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Samuel Meetze (Azilee Younginer) He graduated from Irmo High School and worked for the South Carolina Department of Youth Services. Mr. Meetze retired from the United States Army Reserves. He served in active duty in Korea, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served as the first acolyte and was active in the Lutheran Men Association. He was a member of Boyleston Masonic Lodge #123. Mr. Meetze loved bowling, the Atlanta Braves, and Clemson sports, especially football.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Loretta Nichols Meetze; son, Mr. Thomas Meetze (Tammy); daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Palmer (Brian); brother, Mr. John Calvin Meetze (Vicki); two sisters, Mrs. Waid S. Toy (Vannie) and Mrs. George B. Rawls (Thelma); and four grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Mr. Basil “Kirt” Kirton and Mrs. Virginia Peeples for their devoted friendship and care for Mr. Meetze as well as Caris Hospice and National Health Care, Lexington.
