Funeral service for Jacob “Jake” Paul Eyring, 20, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Chapin United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Jacob was overcome by inner battle, a battle that he could not bear any longer as God placed his arms around him and said, “Come to me.” He found peace on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Kurt Eyring and Pamela Small Eyring. Jake was a 2013 graduate of Chapin High School where he was a member of the InvenTeam at the Center for Advance Technical Studies. He achieved first place at a state technology fair for flight endurance and was awarded on his great technological inventions and innovations. He participated in many activities such as USC’s Pumpkin’ Chuckin’ and participating in many competitions as he displayed his wheelchair innovation in honor of his grandmother. He continued to apply his creative mind as he was a sophomore at Clemson University where he was studying Graphic Communications.
Jake was known for his contagious laugh, beautiful smile and true friendship. He was happiest when doing things for others and making a difference in their lives. He loved camping, fishing and playing on the lake. Jake was a tech wiz, a regular Mr. Fix it, always ready to help out with a car stereo, phone or computer problem. He was also quite the negotiator. He learned so many of these things from hanging out and tinkering with his father. He had an intense love for his mother and sang 80’s songs with her and loved being pampered by his grandmother. Ever protective and always delivering admiration and encouragement to his sister, Jake always gave his sister advice on how to break the news of her various speeding tickets to their parents. Many hearts ache over the loss of Jake.
One thing is for sure, God now has a jacked up ride with an awesome stereo and cool underglow LED lights!
Surviving in addition to his parents are his sister, Alexa Eyring; maternal grandparents, Sue Adkins and Albert Small; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Eyring; aunt, Jeanne Eyring; uncles, Scott, Gary and Tom Eyring. He is also survived by Godparents, Jeff and Patti Filarski and Godsisters, Katy, Bridget and Jillian. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Eyring.
In the nature of Jake’s generosity, the family asks memorials be made in his honor, to NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness South Carolina) PO Box 1267, Columbia, SC 29202 http://www.namisc.org/# or a charity of one’s choice.
