IRMO Funeral service for James Rufus Mobley Jr., Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy (Ret.), 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at the funeral home. Chief Mobley died Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Born in Charleston, SC, he was a son of the late James Rufus Mobley Sr. and Hazel Ruth Marlow Mobley. A 27 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in naval aviation during the Korean Conflict, six tours of duty in Vietnam and in the Bay of Pigs and Lebanon. He also retired as a supervisor at Square D after 18 years of service. He then worked at Toys-R-Us for another 17 years. Surviving are his daughter, Deborah Louise Mobley Wayburn (Lew Wayburn); son, James Rufus Mobley III (Jodi M. Mobley); 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Elizabeth Mobley Johnson; and brother, Claude S. Mobley. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Louise Mitchell Mobley.
