COLUMBIA - James Melvin Postell, Jr. left his earthly home June 22, 2024. He was born December 9, 1923 in Uhrichsville, Ohio. He grew up in Augusta, GA and started work at the age of 13 at Georgia/Carolina Brick Company.
He served in the Air Force for 4 years. During that time, he met and married Louise Chapman. They were married for 62 years.
He then followed his father’s footsteps in the brick industry and was most proud that all 3 sons followed his footsteps at various brick companies.
Mr. Postell worked for General Shale Brick working his way to Vice President. He left General Shale in 1970 to serve as Vice President of Richtex/Canada Brick, retiring in 1990. In 1989, Mr. Postell was awarded the Brick Institute of America Award of Appreciation, for his over 50 years of distinguished service to the brick industry,
He enjoyed his weekend home on Lake Murray and was an avid reader.
Mr. Postell was a loving, supportive member of White Rock Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and on many committees, including the planning for the new Sunday school building, which was named in his honor.
Preceding him in death were; his parents, James Melvin Postell, Sr. and wife, Irene Weir Postell; wife, Louise Chapman Postell; son, David Morrell Postell; and brothers, Alvin Postell and William Postell.
Surviving Mr. Postell are; his sons, James Melvin Postell III (Sheila), and Tommy Donald Postell; grandchildren, Jeff Postell (Cathy), Michele Postell Neely; great grandchildren, Michaela Postell Hauge (Micah), Marissa Postell Sullivan (Caleb), Maura Postell Brewer (Noah), Erika Neely, Mark Witt (Hannah), and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for James Postell, Jr. will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 29, 2024 at White Rock Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Dutch Fork Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church at 1:00 pm. The pallbearers for the service will be Jeff Postell, Micah Hauge, Caleb Sullivan, Noah Brewer, Mark Witt, Rob Brooks; and the honorary pallbearers; Tony Postell, Greg Postell, and Harvey Spence.
