John Richard Ferriter

COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for John Richard (Dick) Ferriter, 80, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2023 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Ferriter passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Born August 7, 1942, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Paul Thomas Ferriter and Kathryn Mary Carney Ferriter. Dick grew up in Aiken, SC and graduated from St. Angela Academy. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Dick served in the US Marine Corp, was a former director of the Sol Blatt Physical Education Center at USC and retired from Corbin Turf and Ornamental. Dick was an avid gamecock fan and passionate about the game of golf. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6892, having served as Grand Knight and District Deputy. Dick always had a smile on his face and was known for his outgoing personality. He will be remembered for his zest of life and jovial spirit.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Jo Williams Ferriter, brother Mark Ferriter (Sally), and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Judy Davis and Mary Hass; and brothers David Ferriter and Thomas Ferriter.
