
Johnny Ephraim James, 77, of Irmo, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Born in Richland County, SC, he was the son of the late Johnnie James and Eloise Norris James. Johnny grew up in Greenwood, SC, attended Greenwood High School and Lower Richland High School, and graduated from Midlands Tech. He retired following 40 years from the South Carolina Air National Guard. Mr. James was a member of Chapin Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth G. James; daughter, Sheryl Lynn Ferren (Ed); son Joseph Thomas Simms (Julie); grandchildren, Caroline Ashley Ferren, Jordan Elisabeth Ferren, Johnny Ellis James, Jr., Justin Arthur James; brother, W. Scott James; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws. Johnny was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his newest granddaughter, “Baby Girl Simms.” His son, Johnny Ellis James and brother, Claude B. James preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the Celebration of Life service at Chapin Presbyterian Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
