He was born in Loris, SC September 5, 1940 to the late Burroughs and Nancy Gause. He graduated from Loris high school in 1958. He entered the United States air force after high school at Lackland Air Force base Texas. He served at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Japan. He continued to study for his degree while in Japan and Texas. While in Texas he was elected as Airman of the quarter and also broke a pistol range record for Lackland Air Force Base. After separating from the Air Force, he went to work for Shakespeare then Allied Chemical in research and development but soon transfer to the electrical shop where he worked as an electrician and ended his career as a foreman after 37 years. After retiring from Allied Chemical, he took on a new role as grandpa/daily childcare for his youngest grandson, while his parents worked.
He was very involved with his children, and all his grandchildren, in all their sports, school and school activities. He coached youth bowling and baseball and attended all activities for his family. God blessed him with three grandsons which he loved to spend time with. He was an avid Gamecock fan and loved attending family events.
He is survived by the love of his life, Myrna Gause, his son Joseph Gause and his daughter Karen Bouknight (Mike), and his three grandsons Joseph Gause Jr., Zachery Gause and Michael Bouknight
A funeral service for Joseph Gause will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, Columbia, SC. A visitation will immediately follow the service at the church fellowship hall.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday February, 10, 2024 at Pleasant Hill Baptist church, Conway, SC.
He was predeceased by his parents Burroughs and Nancy Gause, sister Eulee Todd (BH), and brothers David (Gay) and Sherril (Irene) Gause
