June Suber McElveen passed away peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center. Born March 2, 1925 to Jacob and Mary Watts, June began her professional career after high school and an early first marriage. She attended cosmetology school at night while working her day job at the SC Highway Dept. After graduating from cosmetology school, June was immediately hired by Clairol in New York as a color technician and Platform Artist. She worked shows and was as-signed territory in Alabama and Tennessee. After leaving Clairol, June worked for Wel-la Color and L’Oreal over the next few years, one of her proud accomplishments was to train under Vidal Sassoon. Flying was a fear for June and she decided to come home to SC. In 1962 she started Beauty Unlimited Enterprises (Beauty Unlimited on Rosewood Drive). After a successful start, she opened over eleven more shops in 50+ years. In addition to her beauty shops, she opened Hifalutin Boutique, a ladies clothing store specializing in apparel for proms, pageants and other social occasions. Her shops were located in Columbia, Lexington, Chapin, Ballentine, and Irmo. June always considered her employees as “family.” During the busy years, in 1968 June did manage to find the time to marry Jess McElveen her devoted husband of 50 years. She was a member of Dutch Fork Baptist Church in Ballentine where she has resided for the past 40 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Gary Suber by her first marriage; grandchildren, Lisa Keisler (Donald) of Carlsbad, CA, Donnie Suber (Brandy) of Lebanon, TN; great-grandchildren, Bryce Suber, Nikki Keisler and Quinn Suber; and several nieces and nephews. June was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by her sister, Jay Lou Brock of Chapin.
