Born on July 16, 1943, and a proud graduate of Dreher High School, Kathy lived a full, spirited life defined by her elegance, sharp wit, and deep love for her family, friends, and community.
Kathy enjoyed a dynamic career, working with Russell and Jeffcoat Realtors and later retiring as a Regional Sales Manager for Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company and Ben Arnold. She was also an active member of the Charleston Republican Women’s Club and once had the opportunity to meet President Donald Trump.
A woman of many talents and passions, Kathy was an avid charcoal and watercolor artist whose creativity also came to life in her beautifully decorated home. She was a gourmet Southern cook, known especially for her love of sweets—rarely turning down a pastry or bowl of ice cream. Kathy loved to travel, play cards, and had recently taken up Mahjong, where her competitive nature shined—she did not like to lose.
She found great joy in tending her garden, which included cherished irises passed down from her mother. She adored her dogs, especially Beau and later Cody. Music brought her family together, and many joyful memories were made during dance-offs at her parents’ home— especially when the Supremes, Elvis Presley and Beach Music was playing.
More than anything, Kathy treasured time spent with her family, especially celebrating birthdays. Her warmth, class, and generosity touched everyone who knew her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Harry Perry, with whom she shared a passion for travel, and by her son, Robert Edward Dodson, Jr.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Cheryl Dodson Coble, and son-in-law, Steve Coble; her siblings, Rhett Fuller Goodman (Lynn), Michelle Goodman Twork (the late Raymond B. Twork, Sr.), and Charles Allen Goodman; as well as Paulo Cesar Guzman Carranza and numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her presence.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, with Rev. Jody Flowers officiating.
Memorials may be made to Avasvoiceforever.org, Charleston Animal Shelter, and to first responders in Charleston.
