LaVelle Little Walker, 88, of Irmo, SC, entered her heavenly rest on April 28, 2026. She was at home, surrounded by her loved ones. A funeral service will take place at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 1541 Lake Murray Blvd., Columbia, SC, on Saturday, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM. There will be a time of visitation in the church fellowship hall from 10:00 to 11:00.
LaVelle was born in Ada, OK on October 25, 1937, a member of the Chickasaw Nation. Both of her parents were public school teachers. The family later moved to Pawnee, OK, and LaVelle graduated from Pawnee High School in 1955. She married George Walker on July 14, 1956, and they were blessed with two daughters, Penni and Renee. She has lived in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Nevada (at the nuclear test site), Northern Virginia, New Mexico, back to Oklahoma, and finally here in South Carolina.
LaVelle worked at a bank, then was a secretary, then became a paralegal, and an office manager. Smart, hard-working, and detail-oriented she thrived in all of these professions.
LaVelle was always very active in every church to which she belonged, and was also active in social service efforts. She was instrumental in starting a ride-sharing program for the elderly (called Fish), a program for young moms call MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), and FLOC (For the Love of Children). At Trinity United Methodist in Alexandria, VA she was on the Church Council for years, and eventually became the first female President of the Council.
With all of that activity going on she was always a loving wife and mother, and lately grandmother and great-grandmother. Warm, and accepting of others, she will be dearly missed by so many.
LaVelle is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, George; her sister LaVonne; daughters Penni and Renee (and husband, Walt); grandchildren, Meaghan, Ruby, James, and Joseph; and great-grandchildren, Dmitrii, Ivan, and Alexander.
