

Luther Calvin Chandler, 82, died Saturday, June 14, 2025 peacefully at his home. Born in Union, S. C., he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. William Harry Chandler and Eloree Parrish Chandler. He served with the South Carolina Air National Guard, including deployments to Spain during the Berlin Crisis.
While his father was a Methodist minister, he attended Mt. Zion High School in Winnsboro and graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia. He studied at Wofford and the University of South Carolina. A long time supporter of the Gamecocks, he enjoyed their games at home and on the road.
Luther's career began at the South Carolina Highway Department as an inspector. He later worked as a salesman with Dick Dyer Associates, earning Salesman of the Year. Eventually, he transitioned into self-employment in automobile sales. He loved traveling, especially to Spain and Florida, with annual trips to Litchfield Beach and Edisto Island for the Marsh Hen Hunt.
Luther was a member of the Irmo Navy and a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara S. Chandler; sisters, Harriet Chandler Sample, Catherine Chandler Jacobs, and Jean Chandler Fowler; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Salem United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private service will be held at a later date in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
