Marie Huffman Gantt

Marie Cornelia Huffman Gantt, 106, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2014. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Gary Loadholdt, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel is assisting the family.

Marie was born in Columbia on September 29, 1907, to the late Paris Enoch and Eunice Lorick Huffman. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Burton Gantt; brother, Eli Lorick Huffman; sisters, Willie Ersell Huffman, Maggie Pearl Hoytt and Susan Caroline Huffman.

She was a devoted wife, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her beloved nieces, Kathleen Gomez, of Midland Park, N.J., and Dorothy Ballard, of Marble Falls, Texas; nephew, Eli Huffman of Columbia; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

She studied music at Chicora College in Columbia and was the music teacher for many years at Virginia Wingard Methodist Church Kindergarten in the St. Andrews area. Marie was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Columbia and was very loved by that congregation. She was admired and loved by all who knew her and she will be remembered for her grace and many acts of kindness throughout her life.
