Marie K Higgs

Marie Louise Kirkwood Higgs of White Rock SC, at the age of 94 died at The Heritage at Lowman on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Born March 9, 1922, in Belsprings, VA., she was the daughter of Charles M Kirkwood and Marie Louise Gordon Kirkwood. Marie received a BA and BS degree from Radford College in Virginia. She had lived for over 60 years in Somerset PA where she raised her family, co-owned and taught nursery school and worked in the Mary S Biesecker Public Library. She was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church in Somerset for almost 70 years.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Raymond H Higgs, as well as her foster cousin brother, I. Webb Surratt, Jr. and her son Larry R. Higgs. Surviving are her daughter, Marie Lynne Higgs Trevett (Doug) of Columbia SC and grandchildren April Cassidy (Greg) of Cayce SC, Beth Salter (Tim) of Charleston, SC, Theresa Higgs (Mitesh Pancholy) of Somerville, MA, Nathan Trevett (Christy) of Chapin SC , Matt Higgs (Amy)of Orlando, FL, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Higgs of The Villages, FL. She had 11 great grand children.

The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, SC. Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Dutch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Taylor presiding. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center at the Heritage at Lowman Home.

In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church, 239 W Church St, Somerset, PA 15501 or Christmas Coats for Salvation Army care of Daily American, PO Box 713, Somerset, PA 15501.
