

LEXINGTON - Martha Robinson Leonard, 87, of Lexington, S.C. passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, after a struggle with cancer. She was born in Easley, S.C. on October 24, 1935 and was the daughter of the late James Columbus Robinson and Mary Helen Robinson, and was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, W. Joseph “Jay” Leonard and her brother, James Thomas Robinson. She was retired from a teaching career at Midlands Technical College. She was an active member of St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church and member of the Daughters of the King.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joanne Leonard of Lexington, S.C. and Helen Leonard Smawley (James) of Raleigh, N.C.; her three grandchildren, Clare Helen Smawley, Ryan James Smawley, and Emma Louise Smawley, all of Raleigh, N.C.; her sister, Mary Sharon Syracuse of Chester, VA; her nephews, James Thomas Robinson, Jr. (Lori) of Knoxville, TN and Aaron James Syracuse (Kristal) of Richmond, VA; and her niece, Nicole Syracuse Harris (Chuck) of Richmond, VA.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church located at 1110 Kinley Road, Irmo, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Simon & St. Jude Episcopal Church.
