Play Tribute Movie

A Celebration of Life for Matthew Clifton “Matt” LeBlanc, 31, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.

Matt passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019. Born in West Columbia, he was the only child of Clifton “Clif” and Wanda LeBlanc. He was a graduate of Irmo High School and Asheville-Buncombe Technical College. Matt spent the last five years living amid the natural beauty of Asheville, N.C., where he added a new chapter to his life and made many wonderful friends.

Matt inherited an artist’s eye and talent from his grandfather, Jack Roland Gladden, and his mother, Wanda Gladden LeBlanc. As a child, he loved to draw and paint. His artistic eye shifted to movies and movie-making during his adolescence, which led him into acting and directing in small films. He never lost his love of the craft and artistry of motion pictures. Above all else, Matt’s tender soul made him a wonderful son and friend.

Matt is survived by his parents as well as loving aunts, uncles and cousins. His aunts and uncles include Windy and Jay Jordan of Fort Mill, S.C.; Jackie and Brian Bean of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Tina and Kyle Sparks of Mint Hill, N.C. His oldest uncle is Gary Macera of Columbia. His cousins are Garett Macera of Tega Cay, S.C., and Kyle Sparks II of Mint Hill, N.C. He also is the grandson of the late Betty and Jack Gladden, and Aura Garcia and Joseph Clifton LeBlanc.

Matt was loved dearly by his parents and his family. He will forever live in all their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute in his name to a mental health treatment or suicide prevention organization of your choosing.

Matt was an incredible friend, one of the best. I loved him and I know it was mutual. We looked out for each other. We would talk for hours, trying to figure out the answers to the unknown. I have so many memories of staring at him, enamored, while he shared his mind with me. And his mind was so beautiful, creative, clever and intelligent. I loved parking myself across from him on the big couch at the apartment he shared with Trevor and diving deep into our shared consciousness. I truly thought we were twins in a way. I’ll never forget the first time I met him. It was like meeting an old friend but he was brand new to me. He shared something and I sat there in awe, because it was as if he was reading my mind and verbalizing my thoughts. I gave him my number and the rest is history. I miss him so much. I loved him so dearly. My heart is broken and I feel incomplete since hearing about the tragedy. My greatest condolences to Matt’s family. I understand how great a loss this is, I feel it too. Thank you for bringing one of my best friends into this world. Gone but not forgotten.

Clif, I am so sorry to hear that you and Wanda have lost your beautiful boy. No one who has never lost a child can fathom what you are going through, but I know from my losses that it helps to focus on the good memories. They will eventually make you smile. Matt will always be with you in that way. Lifting you up for peace and healing. Margaret O'Shea
