Melissa Blair Day
November 2, 1929 – January 21, 2023

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Melissa Blair Day, 93, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Day passed Saturday, January 21, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Harry Blair and Editha Flood Blair.
Melissa loved reading, playing bridge, tennis, swimming, golf, and writing poetry. She founded and named Movable Feast, and Southeastern Piano Festival. She was the founder and president of Friends of the Music School of the University of South Carolina. Melissa was also a co-founder of Epworth Children’s Garden Club.
She was a million dollar sales person in real estate in both Columbus Ohio and in Columbia SC. She was an active member of friends of the music school and friends of the law school. A piano was given to music school and one for the law school in her name.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard E. Day, son William E. Day II and Debra Day, wife of William, as well as grandchildren, William E. Day III, Annie D. Bame, Wilson Bame, husband of Annie. She was predeceased by Thomas E. Day, her son and Kelsey M. Day and Michael B. Day, her grandchildren.
