Nathaniel “Nate” Lee Montgomery, age 34, passed away due to medical complications on March 23rd, 2022 in Columbia, SC. Nate was born on July 2, 1987, to his parents, Scott and Betsy Montgomery. He has six siblings: Ben, Rachel, Luke, Abbie, Lydia, and Caleb.
Nate was born in Harrisburg, PA, where the family attended Grace Bible Fellowship Church, home educated the children, and loved spending a week every summer at Pinebrook Bible Conference in the Poconos.
Nate loved Jesus, and he had a sweet, caring soul. He enjoyed singing and playing the piano and trumpet. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles and the USA Today crossword puzzle. He cultivated a spirit of love and joy with everyone he met; he loved spending time with his large family and his close-knit group of friends. He always invited his friends over to talk, eat feel-good food, and play video and board games. He was quick to lend a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on for anyone in need. He will be missed as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Nate was a natural scholar who thoroughly enjoyed learning. He earned a full-ride scholarship and graduated from Winthrop University (2009) with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Human Resources Management. He then pursued various business management roles at Chick-Fil-A and Wegener Media. Nate went on to graduate from Columbia International University with both an M.Div. in Care and Counseling (2020) and an M.A. in Clinical Counseling (2021). Nate completed his internship and was working at Bright Side Counseling Center. His passion was to help people find healing and comfort through wise counsel.
Nate is survived by his parents, Scott and Betsy Montgomery, his siblings, Ben Montgomery, Rachel Wise (husband Benjamin and daughters Laurel and Emma), Luke Montgomery, Abbie Hamner (husband Luke), Lydia Hill (husband Isaac), and Caleb Montgomery. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother Adeline Angevine and his paternal grandmother Laura Montgomery. My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. After all, you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let this endurance complete its work so that you may be fully mature, complete, and lacking in nothing.
