
COLUMBIA Norman William Runge, 87, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 5, 2022. He was born in St Louis, MO on February 26, 1934 to William Runge and Mildred Wagoner. He was also the stepson of Cletus Dale Wagoner.
Norman graduated from the University of Missouri with a Forestry degree. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly working in his yard and hiking the Appalachian trail during his younger years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who fought in the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Soil and Conservation office in 1994, and spent much of his retirement hiking and doting on his grandchildren. Norman enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting over 22 countries. On November 7, 2012 Norman flew to Washington, D.C. as part of the Honor Flight of S.C. to see the memorials and experience the recognition for his service.
He was predeceased by his parents, stepfather and younger brother, Harold Elmer Runge. He is survived by his wife, Roselyn Frances Runge, his son, Michael Runge (Lisa), daughter, Leslie Boyd (Ron), grandson, Jared Boyd (Emily) and granddaughters, Katie Runge and Caylie Boyd McCall (Drew).
Funeral services will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.
