Patrick Michael “Mick” McCubbins IRMO- A Celebration of Life for Patrick Michael “Mick” McCubbins, 61, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. McCubbins passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Born in Columbus, OH, he was a son of the late Joseph William McCubbins and Emma Jean Gilmore McCubbins. Mick was a graduate of Rantoul Township High School, Rantoul, IL. He devoted his life to construction inspection, worked for S&ME in Columbia, and in his mind & heart continued working even in his hospital bed after his illness set in. He was an active member of the American Welding Society. Mick was a huge classic car fan, and although he had an affinity for all the classics, none was a strong as the love of his own 1938 Chevy Coupe. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. Surviving are his wife, Sonja Pye McCubbins; sons, Wyatt Gwyn (Billie), Brien Gwyn, Sean McCubbins (Sherry); daughter Nicole Catoe (Casey); fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by brothers, Joseph McCubbins, Jr., Thomas Carricato, David McCubbins; sister, Jean Stahl; and mother-in-law, Vera Sledge. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Carricato.
