The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will be held in the church columbarium.
Paul passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, surrounded by all his family.
Born on May 11, 1939, in Marion, North Carolina, Paul was the son of the late Paul Gordon Burgin and Ruby Hensley Burgin. He earned an Associate Degree from Mars Hill College and later attended North Carolina State University before beginning a successful career in sales, marketing, and business leadership. During his professional career, he worked with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and Space Saver High Density Storage. Later, he served as President of Oblique Filing Systems.
Above all, Paul cherished the life he shared with his beloved wife, Peggy. Their marriage of thirty-nine years was marked by love, companionship, faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. Whether traveling, spending time with family, or simply sitting on the porch enjoying each other's company, Paul treasured the partnership they built and the memories they shared.
Nothing brought Paul greater joy than his family. In fact, his favorite title was "Papaw". His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy. Some of his happiest moments were spent with them listening to and telling stories, sharing sweet watermelon in the backyard, teaching them to fish, and constantly cheering them on while celebrating their accomplishments. Paul fought his illnesses with remarkable strength and determination for many years because he was not ready to leave his grandchildren behind. In doing so, he leaves them a legacy of perseverance, faith, love, and service that will continue to guide them throughout their lives.
Paul devoted much of his life to serving others. After undergoing open-heart surgery at the age of 48, he became a charter member and co-founder of Mended Hearts at Palmetto Richland and Providence Hospitals, where he volunteered for more than thirty-five years supporting heart patients and their families. He also served on the Board of the Midlands American Heart Association. Through his leadership, compassion, encouragement, and personal example, he made a lasting difference in the lives of countless people throughout the Midlands.
A faithful member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, Paul was known for his generous spirit, warm smile, and genuine interest in others. He led by example in both faith and character, and his children proudly followed in his footsteps. An avid golfer, Paul enjoyed spending time on the course with friends and family. His faith, compassion, and servant's heart guided him throughout his life and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
His legacy lives on through his wife, Peggy H. Burgin; brother, Mike Burgin (Brenda) of Asheville, North Carolina; son, Bryan Burgin (Michael Watson); daughter, Suzanne Jones (David) and grandson, Hunter Jones (Abbie); son, Stuart Burgin (Lisa) and grandchildren, Taylor Burgin, Caroline Burgin, and Will Burgin; stepson, Gregory Sams (Michael Kenyon); and many beloved extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036.
