A memorial service for Rev Lober will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Kennerly Rd, Irmo, SC 29063. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the church.
John was born to Arnold J. Lober and Emma (Wolfe) Lober in Milwaukee Wisconsin. At 8 years old, he moved with his family to Columbus, Wisconsin where his father was a Teacher and Principal at Zion Lutheran College. After spending most of his youth there, John attended Highschool at Martin Luther Prep in New Ulm, Minnesota and proceeded to attend College there at Dr. Martin Luther College. He then joined the Army in February of 1959 where he served as a Medical Specialist and was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne. During his time in service, he was stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina where he met the love of his life, Anna Marie (Reagan) Lober. They married on December 29, 1960, in Columbia, SC and were married 62 years at the time of his passing. After he was honorably discharged from the Army in April of 1962, he went on to attend Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois where he completed a double Master’s degree in Theology and Psychology. He graduated in 1971 and was ordained as a Lutheran minister. He retired from the ministry in 1982 and returned to school to become a Certified Addiction Counselor. He then went to work for the Department of Corrections for several years and worked for Three Rivers Behavioral Health for several years before finally retiring at 80 years old in 2017. John was a longtime friend of Bill W, celebrating 39 years in 2023.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie (Reagan) Lober of Columbia, SC, his son Jonathan Lober of Columbia, SC, his daughter Melissa (Lober) Mathia of Columbia, SC, his daughter Amelia (Lober) Eakin (Jeff) of Greenwood SC, 8 grandchildren; Megan Brovan, Heather Brovan, Brian Brovan (Kasey), Eli Eakin, Eleanor Lober, Isaac Lober, Journey Lober, AJ Lober, and 4 great-grandchildren; Castiel Mcallister, Clara Grace Brovan, Noah Brovan, and Jagger Mcallister.
