

COLUMBIA A memorial service for Richard Jim Kimura, 53, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Mr. Kimura died Friday, July 9, 2021. Born in Ft. McClellan, Ala., he was the son of Sun Ye Lee Kimura and the late Torao Kimura. A 1985 graduate of Richland Northeast High School, he received an associate degree from Midlands Tech in heating, air and refrigeration. He worked for Bi-Lo for many years and then as an HVAC service technician at Dutch Heating and Air, now Hospitality Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of First Baptist Church, West Columbia and loved music and going to work out at the YMCA. He was a troop leader for his daughter’s Girl Scout Troop. An avid Gamecock fan, he enjoyed crabbing and fishing.
A loving husband, father, son and brother, he is survived by his wife, Dawn Michelle Powell Kimura of Columbia; daughters, Corali and Amelia Kimura; his mother; sisters, Barbara K. Jones (John) of N.J., Sandra K. Russell of Lexington, S.C., Jeannie Kimura of Lexington; three nieces, Shandon, Jackie, Kelley; four nephews, Spencer, Cory, Dominic, and Austin; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Millie Powell of Cayce; aunt, Wanda Gunter of Cayce; brothers-in-law, Scott Dorsey (Victoria) of Maryland; sister-in-law Kristian Hall (Michael) of Ft. Mill, S.C.
