While he was known for being a prankster, he was also great at giving true and loving fatherly advice. Richard would help anyone in need, enjoyed spending time with friends, but his most precious time was spent with his family, his dog, Little Girl and especially his grandson, Xander. Surviving are his son, Dylan Charles Rice; grandson, Xander Charles Rice; brothers, David Rice (Toby), Russell Rice; sisters, Dawn Marie Allen, and Francine Murphy (Mark). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Richard would appreciate your vote for Donald Trump, and/or if you would rather, you may make a donation to Take One-Make One Program c/o SCDNR, 1000 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

One of my fondest memories I have of you, was when you were just a little guy standing on your great Meme’s living room chair with your legs crossed and your red cowboy hat on. You were such a sweet boy and grew to be such a sweet man.
This family was so lucky to have you in it.
Love you big

Richard was a one of a kind guy. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. I loved his willingness to give up everything to follow Jesus. His love for Dylan was and is a great example to me on how to be a dad. His adventurous attitude allowed him to live life to the fullest, I still laugh at times about him eating the grub worm in Belize. Richards was really smart in construction and was willing to help anytime I started a project I could not finish hahaha. Love you Big Rich, thanks for the years of friendship. -Barry

I consider Richard a great friend and was able to spend a lot of time with him over the past few months. I will miss his sense of humor and laugh, although I still hear it when certain events take place.

Rest easy my friend!

I will always be proud to say Richard was my friend. Only David could rival him as a storyteller! My friend had an inquisitive mind and more heart than most men. He will be sorely missed.

I will always remember what a sweet boy you were and have fond memories of babysitting for you and your brother David. Though I missed many years in between your childhood and adult years, I am grateful for your visit 2 years ago where we got to spend time together and rekindle our family bond. When you walked through my door it was like you never left. Your loving nature put everyone at ease. I could see what an awesome person you were. Your intelligence, sense of humor and warmth poured out of an enormous heart. I will miss you💜. Aunt DeDe

I only met Richard in 2011 when my family went to Belize on a mission trip, one meeting was all it took. He forged our love for missions and we became fast friends. The love he showed our family, especially our 13 year old son, who didn't want to be on a mission trip, was something I will never forget. He will be greatly missed and I am so thankful that he called me his friend. Our prayers are with you all.

I met Richard through his sister Dawn whom has been a life long friend. Dawn brought him to Petersburg va to help fix some things in the house. Richard was so kind, funny, willing to help anyone! Not to mention the jokes never stop around him! He will always be a good memory and I'll smile when I think of him! My prayers go out to his family. Rest in peace my friend!
