

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Robert Thomas “Bob” Florence, 69, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2021, at the funeral home.
Mr. Florence passed away Friday, March 19, 2021. Born in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of the late Quinton Thomas and Ann Townsend Florence. A graduate of South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, he attended Gardner Webb University. During this time, he met the love of his life, Donna Faircloth. Donna and Bob were true soul mates and loved celebrating family and life together until she passed away in
2017. Donna, his 3 girls, and 7 grandchildren were Bob’s passions. Bob was a true salesman and had a successful career with Josten’s, selling graduation rings and supplies. He later sold insurance with the National Teachers’ Association.
Bob loved people and was very often referred to as the life of the party who would give you the shirt off of his back. Known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, he was an avid Gamecock fan. He loved playing golf and traveling to the beach. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Ashley Rhyne (James) of Columbia, Kristen Royal (Daniel) of Swansea, Megan Joyner (Andrew) of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Cooper, Ellison, Townsend, Neyland, Judsen, Maylee and Holdon; brother,William Florence (Myra) of Ormond Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law,
Carol Kistler of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Hope Florence of Charleston, S.C.; numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Max. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Donna Faircloth Florence and brothers, Terry and Gregg Florence.
