Robert George May

Funeral Service for Robert “Bob” George May, 73, will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at The Church of the Apostles. Officiating will be The Reverend Charles “Chip” Edgar. Burial will be private in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo is assisting the family.

Bob passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016. Born in Lackawanna, NY, he was the son of the late Dallas G. May and Lorraine Jennings May. Bob proudly served his country in the US Marines as well as receiving rank of SSG in the US Army. While in the Army, he served during Vietnam where he was shot and critically wounded. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal and the Air Medal of Honor. Bob married Cheryl “Sherry” Serrano on May 15, 1971.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Sherry, are daughters, Michelle Estep (Scott), Lydia Singleton (Keith); son, Brian Welch (Sara); grandchildren, Baily and Claire Estep, Mason and Miles Welch, Kai and Connors Singleton. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Anderson Estep.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of The Apostle, for the family’s needs, 1520 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
