Roger Leonard Pelenski
October 19, 1945 – January 4, 2021
Roger Leonard Pelenski, of Columbia, SC, passed away on January 4, 2021. It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our cherished husband, father and grandfather, fondly known as Poppy.
Roger was married to the love of his life Angela (Toce), with whom he shared 57 wonderful years. Also left to honor his legacy are his son and best friend, John Pelenski, and his wife Sherri, their daughters Gabrielle (Bobby) Hall and Allix Pelenski; a daughter, Karen Pelenski; and a grandson Kalin McKinney, who he raised as a son. He also leaves behind his beloved great-grandson Noah Pelenski-Hoyt.
Born in New Britain, CT, Roger was predeceased by his parents Gervaise (Lamothe) and John Pelenski; and by his sister, Janet Turcotte.
Roger held a special place in the hearts of all that knew him, especially his sister-in-law Carolyn Toce-McGurk, sister and brother-in-law Holly and Kevin McGurk, and brother-in-law Richard Toce, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Bristol Eastern High School, and from the University of Hartford. Roger served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force specializing in Aircraft Engineering, and from where he received many awards, one of which was for designing and developing a tool for use on aircrafts.
After the Air Force, Roger continued his career where he provided his outstanding skills to various companies such as Fafnir, Kennametal and Conforma Clad. His employment offered him the ability to live and work in many locations: CT, GA, TN, OH, IN, KY and lastly SC.
Roger loved spending time with family, gardening, fishing, boating, going to the beach and watching sports, especially the Boston Red Sox. Not only was he a mechanical genius, but Roger was a jack of all trades, who could fix anything that was broken.
Anyone who knew Roger will tell you that he was a kind hearted, selfless soul who would, and often did, give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He will be remembered always with fondness and a smile. Roger was taken from our earth too soon, but heaven has gained an angel.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, when you look up to the sky and feel the sun on your face, you will know Roger is with you.

My brother, my best friend for most of my life. You will be missed by me and your other sister Sandra Zarick that were omitted from the obituary. What a sad day for all of us.
You are now with Mom and Dad and all of the Pelenski family that loved you.

Roger was plant manager at conforms clad when I worked there. The memories I have are when we went to India together for work. We had some good laughs sitting around this huge pool and we were the only people there. I remember what an honest and great man he was. He will be missed.
