Ruth Catherine Bagwell Hamby

Ruth Catherine Bagwell Hamby, age 95 made her journey to Heaven on October 25, 2025. Catherine was born on March 4, 1930 to Lewis and Willie Mae Bagwell. Catherine had six siblings. She was the last living child. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, John W. Hamby and two sons David Jack Hamby and John W. Hamby, Jr. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Linda Kirby and her son in law James R. Kirby. Catherine is also survived by four grandchildren, Eric Kirby, Allison Bazen, John Hamby III, and Megan Taylor. Catherine also was a great grandmother and is survived by Charlotte Bazen, Allie Bazen, John W. Hamby IV, Savannah Spires and Liliana Hamby.

Catherine was a member of First Baptist Irmo and a member of the Adult 5 SS class where she enjoyed serving as a group captain. Catherine also served on the Cradle Roll for the newborn babies and the Bereavement Committee in the early days at North Trenholm Baptist Church. Catherine was a stay at home mother except for a short career selling World Book Encyclopedias. She loved caring for her family and she and her husband enjoyed travelling around the US and abroad through her husband’s work.

The family would like to thank DayBreak Adult Services for the compassionate, loving care given the last several years. Also, much thanks to Agape Hospice for their loving support these last weeks.

Funeral services will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel on October 31, 2025 at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.
