Sara Schultz Jones, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 12, 2019, with her family gathered around her. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the only child of the late Frederick and Sarah “Sadie” Schultz. Sara attended schools in Wilkes-Barre, graduating from Wilkes College in 1950. She married her lifetime companion, Matthew Jones, on June 2, 1951, and they moved to the Allentown/Bethlehem, PA, area to start their life together. Sara and Matt settled in Bethlehem where Sara was a homemaker, raising their two children. After Matt retired, they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, France, England, and around the American West. The couple moved to Irmo, South Carolina, in 2006 to be closer to family. Sara was blessed with a long life and delighted in the time she spent with all her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Matt, son Steve Jones (Dianna) of Irmo, daughter Barbara Jones of Windsor, CO, granddaughters Jennifer and Kristen of Irmo, five great-grandchildren: Ashley, Shelby, Justin, Christopher, and Logan, and two great-great grandchildren: Dylan and Ellie.

The family is grateful for the kindness and support of friends and neighbors through the last few years and the compassionate care provided by Home Instead Senior Care and Agape Hospice which allowed Sara to remain in her home.

Sara enjoyed being a Wild Parent to several animals at the local zoo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia, South Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
