Memorial Service for Terry David Johnson, 72, will be conducted at six o’clock on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Union United Methodist Church in the chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo is assisting the family.
Terry passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018. Born in Fulton, NY, he was a son of the late Ernest Clyde Johnson and Nellie Elizabeth House Johnson. Terry received his Electrical Engineering degree from Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont. This was during the time of the Vietnam War and following his graduation, he joined the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. Before leaving for basic training, he and Susan Alice Hay were married on June 8, 1968, in Padanaram, MA. Terry was later stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX where he remained during the war. He was the sole surviving son and did not serve overseas. His brother Anthony Kent Johnson, navigator of a B-52 was killed in Vietnam when it ran off the runway into a mine field. Following his military service, Terry worked for Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies as an Electrical Engineer and Problem Solver in Systems Sales. Terry was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo.
Surviving in addition to his wife of almost 50 years, Susan Johnson; daughter, Debra Johnson Prosser and her husband Verne Marvin Prosser; son, Gregory David Johnson; granddaughters Katherine Grace and Eleanor Elizabeth Prosser; nephew Christopher Johnson and his wife, Jennifer; great-nephew, Jacob Johnson; and great-niece, Sara Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Union United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 7582 Woodrow Street, Irmo, SC 29063.
