

Walter Allen Pruitt, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23rd, at the age of 84. Visitation to celebrate his wonderful life will be held from 11am to 1pm, Saturday, May 30th, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 North Woodrow Street, Irmo.
He was born on August 21st, 1941 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weldon Pruitt of Bennettsville, South Carolina. After graduating from Columbia Business College he soon pursued his entrepreneurial spirit first in home building and then in the cable industry. He married Sarah Cook Pruitt in 1962 and together they shared 63 wonderful years. Throughout the years Walter enjoyed reading, solving Sudoku puzzles, watching old movies with Sarah and researching both history and the bible. Family meant everything to him and he was most happy when Sarah, his children and grandchildren were around. He is a former deacon at North Trenholm Baptist Church and a current member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church. Both family and friends alike remember Walter for his infectious smile and the gift of making others feel special.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Cook Pruitt; two daughters, Dawn Pruitt Gressette of Columbia and Cindy Pruitt Bolin of Chapin; son, Walter Allen Pruitt, Jr. of Orangeburg; sister Mary Ellen Pruitt Liles of McBee; grandson, Walker Allen Bolin of Chapin; granddaughter, Sarah Dawn Bolin of Chapin; and Sharon Boltin Pruitt of Orangeburg. Walter was pre-deceased by his sister, Polly Pruitt Quick.
Pets are treated like family members in the Pruitt household all through his life including his beloved dog, Lucy, who stayed by his side throughout these past 6 years and the family jokingly says was his favorite child. In lieu of flowers, honor Walter’s memory through donations to Pets, Inc on 300 Orchard Drive, West Columbia.
