

COLUMBIA - A memorial service for William Thomas Drennen, PhD, 85, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service and later with a reception at the home of his daughter, Karen. Dr. Drennen, a retired professor emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of South Carolina, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016. Born on October 24, 1930 in Birmingham, Alabama, he was a son of the late Ralph Drennen, Sr. and Peggy Brisky Drennen. He was a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman and served at the US Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan during the Korean War. While there, he worked with Marines suffering from PTSD. Dr. Drennen held a BA from Birmingham Southern University, an MA from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D from Florida State. He was the author of two fictional novels, “Eagles Flying Blind” and “Penetrating the Veils.” He was a member of the American Psycological Association. Surviving are his son, Mark Drennen (Teresa) of Elon, North Carolina; daughter, Karen Chiles (John) of Irmo; brothers, Mike Drennen and Robert Drennen both of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Alex and Melanie Drennen, and Haley, Jenna, and Katie Chiles.
