

A memorial service for William Wesley Porterfield, Jr., 78, will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home starting at 2:00 pm. He will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in a family-only service held at a later date.
Mr. Porterfield passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025. Born on April 12, 1947 in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late William Wesley Porterfield and Virginia Alice Holliday Porterfield.
He was an alum of A.C. Flora High School, received his Associates degree from Wingate College, and his Bachelor’s from The University of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a long-time employee of Bell South, he retired after years of service from AT&T.
Wesley was a proud member of and one-time officer of the Palmetto A’s of South Carolina Model A Ford Club, the local chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). His greatest passion was the restoration of his 1930 Model A Ford. He spent his final years putting his excellent mechanic’s skills to use helping other car enthusiasts restore their own cars, and in assisting car club members in travelling in their classic cars to shows and events around the region.
Surviving are his daughters, Melissa Rynn Porterfield (Chip Crane) and Susan Irby P. Pardee (CR); and three grandchildren, Charles, Grace, and Anna; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ann Irby Garrett Porterfield; and his two sisters Mellany Belle Porterfield Shumate and Alice Holliday Porterfield Broom
