Was called home to be with the Lord January 15, 2021. Ada May Smith was born June 3rd, 1924 in Delmont New Jersey to Joseph and Lillian Butcher. Ada grew up in Dorchester New Jersey. She graduated from Millville High School in 1941 and Atlantic Community College in 1974 with a nursing degree. Ada graduated at a time when nurses wore their uniforms proudly. She loved her profession and was very dedicated to her work. She worked as a registered nurse and supervisor for the Woodbine State School for 38 years. Ada married John Albert Smith on April 29th, 1961. They were married for 32 years and resided in Greenfield New Jersey. After retiring, Ada moved to Michigan in 1995. Ada’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandkids. Her walls were covered with family pictures. Ada had 5 children, 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Ada had a strong faith which she loved sharing with her family. You could often find her reading her Bible or devotions in the afternoon. She was a member of Loomis Park Baptist Church, a financial supporter of Liberty University and a member of the Great Pocahontas Lodge. Ada loved to travel. During her lifetime, she visited 49 of the 50 states and she traveled abroad to Mexico, Germany, and Israel. Always returning with pictures and souvenirs. During the summer Ada enjoyed gardening. She loved sharing her vegetables with friends and neighbors. On the weekends you could usually find her in front of the TV watching NASCAR. Ada was an avid fan and the NASCAR race schedule dotted her calendar. Ada also enjoyed sudoku, bingo, puzzles, and she never passed up a good game of cards. Survived by four children, William (Mary) Beggs, Judy Davis, Lee (Elaine) Beggs and Pamela (Rick) Sexton, twelve grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, John A. Smith, one son, Walter Beggs, one sister, Sylvia Maxfield, one granddaughter, Tammy Beggs and one grandson, Austin Fouty. Ada was an amazing Mother, Grandmother, and Friend to all who knew her. She is now in God’s loving arms and we will hold her love forever in our hearts. Memorial contributions can be made to Liberty University. The family plans to have a private service at a future date.
