

Went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 13, 2011; whom he accepted into his life in August of 1988. Alphonso, or as he was affectionately called, “Red” was born on November 5, 1945 to the late Alphonso and Louella Fowler. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson, MI. Red was an accomplished and outstanding athlete in varsity football, baseball, and wrestling during high school. After high school, Red went to Ferris University for two years on a full football scholarship, until a career ending knee injury altered his educational and career plans. After returning to Jackson from College, he worked at various places but made a career until his retirement as a corrections officer at the former Southern Michigan Prison. Red is survived by his wife, Edna; and his daughter, Letitia V. from his first marriage to the late Mary V. Lyons; his siblings, Cassandra, David, and Linda “Linnie”; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings James “Moon” and Patricia “Ann”. The family will receive friends at the Patience-Montgomery Funeral home on Wednesday, April 20, from 2 – 7 p.m.; the family hour will start at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, with services promptly at 11 at the Faith Temple, 1020 N. Blackstone Street, Jackson, MI 49202. He will be laid to rest in Roseland Memorial Gardens.
