Alvin Joe Smith, Sr.

June 26, 1942December 11, 2020

Of Jackson, passed away at his home on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 78. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Bertha Smith; six children, Ingrid Smith, John (Linda) Smith, Thomas Smith, Matthew Smith, Jacqueline Smith and Bonnie Smith; many grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Alvin J. Smith, Jr.; and two sisters, Shirley Lindsey and Faye Reynolds. Alvin was born to Thomas and Lottie Smith in Illinois. He relocated to Michigan with his family when he was a young man and spent his career as a truck driver for over 20 years. He was a devoted family man, hardworking and well liked. He was always willing to help others when he was able to. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. Alvin had a strong Faith in the Lord and attended Greater Philadelphia Church, where he served as a Deacon. Cremation has been chosen and the family will receive friends at Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home for a Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
