Ara Frances Boles

Frances was raised in Hilham, TN, the youngest of eight children. She married Doris B. Boles on August 20, 1948.

Frances and Doris made trips north looking for work, as many young couples did at that time. Doris went to Chicago but came back to Tennessee, Frances stayed back in Tennessee to deliver their first child Donald. Frances worked in the shirt factory in Livingston for some time until they went to Toledo, OH, looking for work for a while but not much luck. While in Toledo, Frances delivered their first girl Shirley. Doris got a job with Ford Motor company in Ypsilanti MI., and they bought a home in Lincoln Park MI. Frances worked in a little restaurant called Top Hat working the night shift in Detroit, MI. Theresa and Catherine were born in Lincoln Park before she went to work at General Motors at the Fisher Body Plant in Livonia, MI. With Frances working in Livonia and Doris working in Ypsilanti they decided it was time to move closer to both of their jobs, so they bought a house in Canton MI in August of 1976 and remained in that home as of the time of her passing. She retired in 1989 after many years of service. After retirement Frances and Doris traveled until his passing in 2001. Frances enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. When she visited people, and a flower caught her eye she would get a clipping of that plant to bring home and start her a planter. She canned green beans, and tomatoes, pickles and jam, grapes were from her own grape vines. Her potato salad and Italian cream cake are two of the recipes her girls make the most and is loved by the grands and in laws.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Charles) Justice of Newport, MI, Theresa Boles of Canton, MI, and Catherine (Jeff) Murray of Rives Junction, MI; one daughter in law, Patty Boles of Livingston, TN; Eight grandchildren, Jason (Patricia) Boles of Allons, TN, Perry (Christina) Boles of Mt. Juliet, TN, Kristy (Charlie) Ward of Newport, MI, Amy (Dan) Kalbfleisch of Newport, MI, Ryan (Ashley) Torz of Canton, MI, Mandy (Ben) Graves of Rives Junction, MI, and Kaelyn Torz of Rives Junction, MI, Nic (Nia) Murray of Lansing, MI; fifteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Doris B. Boles; son, Donald Boles; grandson, Michael Justice; great granddaughter, Rylee Torz; two brothers and five sisters.

The family will greet friends and family at the West End Church of Christ, 1350 Bradford Hicks Dr, Livingston, TN 38570 on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM. Frances will be laid to rest at Maxwell Chapel Cemetery in Hilham, TN.
