Of Jackson, Michigan, born on December 28, 1927, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. Arletha was born in Jackson, but spent most of her childhood in Pauling, Ohio. She attended a special school in Dayton, Ohio, for hearing impaired students during her elementary school years. Her world of silence was overcome through mastering the art of lip-reading. She returned to Paulding to continue her education for the junior and high school years. Arletha returned to Jackson upon graduating from high school and attended Detroit Bible Institute, where she majored in music with a study in elementary piano. She and her husband were co-founders of Berean Bible Baptist Church of Jackson. Her greatest joy was doing the Lord’s work, serving in her church, photography, gardening, avid history buff, and communicating with others through hand-written letters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harold L. Dungy, with whom she served as a missionary for over 30 years, her daughter Dorothy L. Dungy, parents Alvin and Ada Green, brother Simon Greene, and sister Helen Dungy. She leaves behind two granddaughters Errikka Dungy (Jose’ Vidro) and Bethany Culliver both of Colorado. Arletha was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren; Angel, Jasari, Justin, George, Damien, Zamaya, Jose and Raymond. A special mention is given to Arletha’s two nieces Sharon Leverett of Ypsilanti and Beverly Hurd of Jackson, and two very dear friends Maggie Davis of Florida and Duane Gantt of Buffalo, New York. Services will be held at Berean Bible Baptist Church 2104 Francis St in Jackson on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Family Hour will begin at 11:00 A.M. with services following at 12:00 PM. The family has respectfully requested, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Family Life Radio, PO Box 35300 Tucscon, AZ, 85740-5300. A special thanks to the staff at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice House for their loving care of our beloved.
