

Of Jackson, was called home Thursday, March 19, 2015, age 89. Art was born November 12, 1925 in Birch Run, Michigan, to Alfred and Caroline Schuknecht. He graduated from Arthur Hill Trade School in 1944 and Indiana Technical College in 1949, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Marian Lydia Nuechterlein on October 21, 1950. After graduating from Indiana Technical College, he worked for 36 years for Consumers Power/Energy as an electrical engineer. After retirement, he worked part-time at Patience-Montgomery and Burden & Son Funeral Homes. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 63 years and generously gave of his time, serving as an elder, usher, chairman of various commissions, and President of the Congregation. He also helped found Trinity Lutheran School in 1961 and served as President of the first Parent/Teacher Association. With his close friends Harold Geiersbach and Bob Liechti, a trio affectionately dubbed “The Three Amigos”, he devoted countless hours to the care and maintenance of the Lutheran school and church properties. Art will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a genuine friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilfred. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marian; sons Steven (Pat) of Howell and Phil of Madison Heights; daughters Jean (David) Yohe and Lori (Todd) Post all of Jackson; grandchildren, Katy (Kevin) Bilkey of West Bloomfield, Matthew (Audrey) Schuknecht of Jackson, Michael, Kevin and Selina Schuknecht of Howell, Tyler and Madison Post of Jackson, John Yohe and Alaina (Michael) Kuehn of Portland, OR.; sisters, Elaine (Dan) Walters, MaryAnn (Bill) Rummel, and Sharon (Gary) Huber all of Frankenmuth; sister-in-law Lorna Reinbold of Saginaw. Art is also survived by ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 122 W. Wesley St. Monday March 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Eric Ekong and Rev. Michael Hanson officiating. Private interment will be at Roseland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 2-6 P.M. and Monday at the church at 10:00 A.M until service time. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to Kevin, Leigh and Bobby Ganton and the entire staff at Arbor North Living Center, as well as the staff at Great Lakes Caring and Allegiance Hospice Home, for the loving care and friendship they provided Art. Art’s life was centered on his faith in God, and his call to his heavenly home is summed up in his Confirmation verse from Matthew 11: “Come unto me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble at heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or School.
