Of Albion Michigan, passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 while under the care of the staff at Henry Ford Allegiance Health. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband of 62 years, George Race; two daughters, Veronica (Donald) Cockroft and Karen Alexander; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Milton Walker. Barbara was born on September 27, 1938 in Battle Creek to Peter and Laura (Reed) Walker and grew up in Kalamazoo. On May 10, 1956 she married George and together they raised a family. She was a proud, hardworking homemaker. She loved her grandchildren and was fond of her family pets. She also enjoyed knitting, was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan. At one time she was a HAM Radio operator WB8UWX and was the secretary of C.A.R.S (Cascades Amateur Radio Society) Barbara was extremely giving and was always willing to help others when she was able to. She touched the hearts and lives of many and will be greatly missed. According to her wishes her gift of giving will continue as Mrs. Race has chosen to anatomically donate her body to the University of Michigan. There will be a private family gathering to honor her.
