

Of Concord, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the age of 91. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Payne and sister, Barbara J. Pickett. She is survived by her two children, Floyd “Mike” (Rita) Payne and Suzanne (Ron) Wirebaugh; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hiland, Michelle Hetherwick, Terri Myers, Annie Wirebaugh and Ronald (Sonja) Wirebaugh; thirteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Betty was born in Jackson to Phillip H. Kelley and Winifred L. (Stewart) Kelley on September 13, 1924. After completing the tenth grade Betty married Floyd at the age of 16. He went to serve during WWII and she, like many other women in her era went to work in the factories and are known as “Rosie the Riveter”. Betty was featured and honored in 2011 as one of the hardworking women that kept our country moving forward. She was a hardworking family woman. While she was employed at various factory jobs she worked just as hard at home on their farm. Betty touched the hearts and lives of many; she will be missed. A service honoring her life will be held at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a Rosary service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. following the visitation. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
