OBITUARY

Celestine Grant

July 31, 1944November 21, 2019

Celestine “Tina” Grant was born in Eastman Georgia to Dennis Smith and Elizabeth Jones-Smith. After losing her mother as an infant she was relocated to Painesville, OH. Her father later remarried and she was raised and loved by Hattie “Lil” Smith. As a young child she attended Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.

Tina attended Harvey High School in Painesville, OH. She had two beautiful girls: Annette and Catherine. She later moved to Chicago where she met and married the late Elder Avont Gant III.

Later she moved to Houston, TX where she worked and lived for many years before returning home to Painesville. She retired from Concord factory at the age of 65, after having health issues. Tina moved to Jackson, MI after retiring where she worked for the Department of Aging at Word of Light Senior Site until her health would no longer allow her.

Tina loved to make people laugh with a unique sense of humor. She loved gospel music and Shirley Caesar was her favorite. She loved going out to eat, with crab legs being her favorite monthly treat. When home, she enjoyed solving puzzle books, and reading. Tina loved Steve Harvey’s Family Feud and the Hallmark movie channel.

She loved to bake; she became famous for her peach cobblers among her friends.

By working hard, Tina set an example for her children of what hard word can accomplish. She was always able to get and keep jobs working 12 to 14 hour days until she retired.

She was preceded in death by Elizabeth (Jones) Smith, (mother); Hattie Lil Smith, (mother); Dennis Smith, (father) and Hattie Brown (honorary sister). She is survived by Annette Smith of Los Angeles, CA (daughter); Catherine Reese of Jackson, MI (daughter); LaZeigh Patterson (grandson), LaKeyah Patterson, (granddaughter), LaMir Patterson, (great grandson), Lay’ Niyah Patterson, (great granddaughter) all of Jackson, MI.
