

Of Jackson, passed away on September 4, 2012 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Mary L., son Bruce (Patti) Dewey of Galesburg, granddaughter Jackie (Jimmy) Knight and great-grandsons Chase and Korben of Collierville, TN. and grandson Brian (Emily) Dewey of Owings Mills, MD. Daughter Kaylyn (Mike) VanHarn and grandson Dustin VanHarn of Caledonia, Sister Gloria Bammer of Sandusky, OH and nephew Craig Bammer of Florida. Sister-in-law Judith Tedder, niece Cristen (Jeff) Brown and great-nephews Trip and Tyler Vogt all of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Mabel Dewey, brother-in-law Harry Bammer, nephew Reggie Bammer, and parents-in-law Rev. Paul and Lucille Knaak.
Charles was a 25 year veteran of the Jackson City Fire Department and a 40 year veteran of the Michigan International Speedway fire department, 30 of those as fire chief. In those 40 years he did not miss a single race. He also, worked on the fire crews at the Atlanta, Meadowlands, Cleveland and Winchester Speedways. For enjoyment, he attended the Daytona 500 in Florida for 40 consecutive years before his health forced him to stop. He devoted his life to his family, NASCAR, firefighting and camping. He attended Bethel Baptist Church where the service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Leo Cumings officiating. Visitations will be 4-8p.m. on Thursday at Charles Burden and Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Highland Cemetery in Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m.
