

Of Jackson, passed away at his home on Monday, July 28, 2014 at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Miriam (Hopkins) Sargent; five children: Denise (Iyad) Sargent-Natour, Dawn (Robert Cameron) Sargent, Dwight (Cathy) Sargent, Derrick (Cindy) Sargent, and Dody (Todd) Sargent; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Pamela (Paul) True; as well as many loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Sargent and brother, John R. Sargent. Charles was born to John and Altha (Davidson) Sargent in Jackson on January 28, 1931. After graduating from East Jackson, he served in the U.S. Naval reserve while attending Jackson Community College and was employed at Consumers Power. At the age of 21 he married and started a family. He then went on to graduate from Adams State College in Colorado and returned to Jackson where he taught at Jackson Public Schools and was a local Meemic Insurance representative. He enjoyed an active life, was an avid fisherman and golfer; he served as a Scout Master, and coached Little League Baseball. He donated land and built a baseball field on the property at Whipple Road off I-94. He was a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church (2301 Ridgeway Road Jackson 49203), where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 12:00 noon with Reverend Karen Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 31, from 6 to 8 PM and again at the church from 11:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to the church. He touched the lives of many and will be missed.
