Cheryl Ann Lanphear, age 64, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on June 22, 2026. Born January 29, 1962, in Traverse City, Michigan, Cheryl was the daughter of Bryan and Flora (Hutchison) Mullins. Throughout her life, she was deeply beloved—remembered for a kind heart, a selfless spirit, and a devoted presence that made others feel welcomed, cared for, and included.
On May 25, 1996, Cheryl married Richard Lanphear in Jackson, Michigan, and he survives. Also surviving are her children, Travis (Shelby) Lanphear, Bryan Lanphear, and Tiffany (Nate) Howard; her granddaughters, Ellie Howard and Adeline Howard, with one on the way, Laney Lanphear; her sister, Sandy (Terry) Parker; her brother, Don Mullins; and her nieces and nephew, Tavi (Tyler) Beauchamp, Lisa (Chris) Spindler, Jill (Mike) Bethel, Tommy Duszynski, and Molly Duszynski, along with many other extended family members and friends. Cheryl’s care extended beyond titles and relationships—she loved her family, friends, and all her many adopted children.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Lucy Mullins, Bev Duszynski, and Bonnie Mullins; and her beloved pets: dogs, Dot and Jill (Jack Russell sisters), Bubba, and her cat, Teddy Bear.
Cheryl found joy in simple, meaningful moments—camping at both Pleasant Lake and Traverse City, gathering around bonfires, and heading out for road trips that turned ordinary days into lasting memories. She enjoyed NASCAR races and football, especially cheering for the Detroit Lions and U of M. She also enjoyed visiting the Zoo as an enjoyable pastime of hers. Music was another steady companion in her life, with an appreciation for both country and classic rock. In all these things, her devotion to the people around her was evident, expressed in the time she gave, the warmth she offered, and the steady kindness she carried.
