Dewey Sawyer

Of Jackson, passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, comfortably at Allegiance Health with family at his side. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Edith (Bailey) Sawyer; children, Carolyn, Michelle, Rick and Dale (Jayne) Sawyer; grandchildren, Jacob, Joe, Jarod and Taryn; brothers, Paul and Bud; sister, Arlene. Mr. Sawyer was one of nine children born to Walter and Florence (DeRossett) Sawyer in Dock, Kentucky on February 29, 1932. After he graduated High School he and Edith were married on November 1, 1952 and proudly served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Sawyer sent his working career with the Jackson County Road Commission and retired as a State Maintenance Superintendent in 1992, after 39 years of service. He was a proud, hardworking family man. He touched the lives of many and will be missed. A service honoring him will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 3:00PM. The family will receive friends for visitation at 2:00 just prior to the service. Followed by a private family interment service at Kennedy Cemetery, in Munith.
