Don Arthur Pomering, 93, died peacefully on August 14, 2020. Don was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 26, 1926 to Walter and Emma Pomering. He married Shirley Marie Stevens in 1946 and they had three sons (David, Eric, and John) and two daughters (Linda and Carol). During WWII, Don enlisted in the Army and served one year in the Air Corps until his honorable discharge in 1945 with three service medals. Arriving back in Michigan, Don married his high school sweetheart and completed his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Michigan. He had a long, successful career in engineering putting his imprint on numerous power stations and industrial facilities throughout the country. Don was a God-fearing man loyal to his Church, wife, and family. He instilled the love of nature and God into his children. Don loved photography. He recorded the family history through his photographic images, which were enjoyed by everyone (and still bring joy and a few tears to the family). Don was an aficionado of music – especially jazz and big band. In fact, Don was a wonderful saxophone player and led his high school dance band. Golf was also a passion and Don continued playing until he was 90. Don was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Emma Pomering, step-mother Margaret Pomering, son David, sister June (Edward) Kellogg, and son-in-law Tim Palmer. Don is survived by his wife Shirley; sons Eric (Connie) Pomering and John (Phyllis) Pomering; daughters Linda Palmer and Carol (Steve) Miller; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation & Service will be Saturday August 22, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm. Both will be at St. James Lutheran Church - Jackson, Michigan.
